Deaths from police violence fell 52.63% in Zulia after a year

During the year 2022, in Zulia, 108 presumed extrajudicial executions or illegal violent deaths were registered in the context of 88 acts of violence with the intervention of Venezuelan State security agencies (national, state, and municipal), according to what was documented by the Commission for Human Rights of the State of Zulia (Codhez) in its most recent bulletin General Situation of Human Rights in Zulia: Deaths due to police violence – second semester 2022.

After a year, these figures show a 52.63% decrease in the number of deaths, and a 50.56% decrease in the number of violent acts that occurred. This, in comparison with the rates documented by Codhez in 2021, when 228 deaths were reported as a consequence of 178 actions of police violence.
