Amid blackouts and unsafe drinking water, people in Zulia suffer from the neglect of the State in the provision of basic services.
«The crisis of public services in the country is experienced with greater force in Zulia», as reported by the ommission for Human Rights of the State of Zulia (Codhez) in its November 2021 Bulletin, which reports the general situation of rights human beings in the region, in relation to the provision of electricity services, drinking water, domestic gas, urban cleaning, and transportation and supply of gasoline.
According to what is documented in the period between january and october of this year 2021, Codhez highlights the constant precariousness in the operation and infrastructure of the aforementioned public services, in the absence of effective and lasting responses by the competent state bodies.
This neglect is evidenced through blackouts and electrical rationing, the lack of piped water or its lack of purification, increased use of firewood for cooking due to a shortage of domestic gas, the proliferation of dirty spaces and accumulation of garbage, sacrifices personal and family for long journeys on foot due to lack of public transport or long queues to fill gasoline, among other circumstances.
